WILLIAMSON COUNTY, Ill. (WSIL)--Williamson County election officials are getting ready to count the mail-in and provisional ballots from the April 1st election.
The Williamson County Clerk, Amanda Barnes, says April 15th is the final day they can accept the ballots that were postmarked by the election date.
She says they currently have forty ballots and are waiting to receive more.
“Of that 2,500, we've received 40. So we'll look at those. Count them. We have to wait because an election is not final until that time, Barnes said.
She says the recent election had a lower turnout than they would have liked.
“In some of these small elections, like this one, one or two votes could matter. You know it could change an election, Barnes said.
Barnes says after she declares the winners, results will go out on their website and to the local towns. She says the newly elected officials will report to their districts to start their terms.
“I'll send them the results of the election and the certificate of elections for each of those individuals that won,â€ Barnes said.Â
