Woman charged with kidnapping following Amber Alert out of Cape Girardeau

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (WSIL) � A woman is facing a kidnapping charge after a frantic search for a 5-year-old Thursday night. 

Missouri State Highway Patrol issued an Amber Alert at around 9 p.m. on April 17th. 

They urged the public to look for the vehicle that 35-year-old Markeila Williamson was believed to be driving, saying they believed the child could have been with her. 

Police say Williamson is the non-custodial mother of the child who went missing.

A little after 10:30 p.m., police found the vehicle in which Williamson was driving with the child inside. Police say the child is safe. 

Jail records show that Williamson crossed state lines into Arkansas, where Blytheville Police arrested her.

Williamson is facing a kidnapping charge. 

No bond has been set and she is expected to appear in court on Monday, April 21st at 9 a.m.
