AVA (WSIL) -- There is a best-kept secret in Jackson County serving up some seafood and so much more, in this edition of Brick and Mortar.
Crazy Joe's Fish House is a hidden gem in Ava. Owner Bob Martin took over the restaurant in 2007. He and his wife also own Mary Lou's in Carbondale.
Martin says the restaurant offers a lot of different menu items like smoked brisket, bbq sandwiches, shrimp cooked several ways, whole catfish, Alaskan whitefish, frog legs, wings, french fries, and much more.
If you're interested in staying in the area for a few days and need a place to stay, just behind the eatery is a vacation cabin. Right now the cabin is listed on Airbnb. It is 15x36 with a 6-foot porch and fully furnished with one bedroom, two TVs, washer, dryer, and dishes.
Crazy Joe's Fish House is open every Wednesday from 4-9 p.m. and Friday and Saturday from 4-10 p.m. To learn more, visit the Facebook page or call (618) 763-4417. The restaurant only takes cash, but Martin is hoping to add credit card access in the coming week.
