100+ new cases of COVID-19 reported in southern Illinois

(WSIL) -- More than 100 new cases of COVID-19 were reported in southern Illinois Monday.

New cases were noted in 13 local counties.

On Monday, the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) announced 1,173 new cases of COVID-19 in the state, including 6 additional confirmed deaths.

Currently, IDPH is reporting a total of 162,748 cases, including 7,301 deaths, in Illinois.

FRANKLIN COUNTY

  • Females: One teenager and three in their 20s
  • Males: One in their 30s, one in their 50s, and two in their 60s

There have been 81 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Franklin County. Of those, health officials say 45 have recovered.

GALLATIN COUNTY

  • Female: One in her 30s, one in her 60s, two in their 70s
  • Male: One under the age of 10, one in his 50s and one in his 80s

Egyptian Health Department says all of the new cases are at home in isolation, except the man in his 80s who is currently hospitalized. To date, there have been 23 cases of COVID-19 in Gallatin County.

HARDIN COUNTY

  • Female: One in 10s and one in her 20s

There have been seven cases of COVID-19 in Hardin County. Six of those seven cases are still active.

JACKSON COUNTY

  • Female: Two teens, eleven in their 20s, and two in their 50s
  • Male: Five in their 20s, one in his 30s, one in his 50s, and one in his 60s

The Jackson County Health Department says, in the past 24 hours, 23 residents have been confirmed to have contracted COVID-19, the most cases recorded in a single day in Jackson County since the start of the pandemic.

The health department says more than 40-percent of the new cases in Jackson County this month have been from individuals in their late teens and twenties.

"This is a particularly challenging demographic to work with on COVID-19, as they are generally social in nature, and typically have fewer symptoms and less complications when they contract the disease. However, their exposure helps drive further transmission in the community, potentially bringing the disease to others who experience poor health outcomes, including elderly individuals and those with chronic health conditions,� said administrator Bart Hagston.

As of Monday, there have been 425 confirmed cases, including 19 related deaths, in the county. Health officials say 328 individuals have been released from isolation. Seventy-eight active cases are currently being managed.

JEFFERSON COUNTY

  • Female: Two under the age of 10 (household contacts of a positive case reported last week), one in her 20s (hospitalized), and two in their 30s
  • Male: One in his 30s, one in his 40s, one in his 50s and one in his 80s (long term care resident)

The Jefferson County Health Department reported nine new cases Monday. Health officials said the new cases were "attributed to contact with a positive person in their household or community spread." There have been 144 positive cases in Jefferson County, including 14 related deaths. Twenty-one active cases are currently in isolation.

JOHNSON COUNTY

  • Female: One female in 10s and one female in her 60s
  • Male: One male in his 40s and one in his 60s

Johnson County has had 39 confirmed cases of COVID-19. Twenty-one of those cases are still active.

MASSAC COUNTY

  • Female: Two in their 10s, one in her 20s, and one in her 40s

¾ÅÓÎÌåÓý Seven Health Department has reported 23 cases of COVID-19 in Massac County. Of those, twelve are still active.

PERRY COUNTY

  • One male in his 40s

There have been 70 confirmed cases of COVID-19, including one death, in Perry County. Eight cases are currently active.

PULASKI COUNTY

  • One female in her 50s

As of Monday, there have been 89 cases of COVID-19 in Pulaski County. ¾ÅÓÎÌåÓý Seven Health Department says 55 of those individuals have recovered; 34 cases are still active.

SALINE COUNTY

  • Female: Three in their 30s, one in her 50s and one in her 70s
  • Male: One in his 20s, one in his 30s, one in his 40s, one in his 60s, and two in their 70s

Egyptian Health Department says Saline County has had 56 confirmed cases of COVID-19. All of the new reported positive cases are at home in isolation.

UNION COUNTY

  • Female: One in 10s, two in their 20s, one in her 30s, seven in their 40s, five in their 50s, one in her 60s, one in her 70s and one in her 80s
  • Male: One in his 40s, one in his 50s, one in his 60s and one in his 70s

To date, there have been 242 cases of COVID-19, including 18 deaths, in Union County. Seventy-five cases are currently active.

WHITE COUNTY

  • One female in her 30s

Health officials say the woman is isolating at home. White County has had 32 confirmed cases of COVID-19 since the pandemic began.

WILLIAMSON COUNTY

  • Females: Three teenagers, one in their 20s, one in their 30s and one in their 60s
  • Males: One in their 20s, one in their 30s, one in their 50s and one in their 60s

To date, there have been 212 confirmed cases of COVID-19, including four deaths, in Williamson County. Of the positive cases, 150 have recovered.
