CARBONDALE, Ill (WSIL) -- Not everyone was shocked by Governor Pritzker's announcement that masks are now required in schools, some schools took pre-emptive action.

At Brehm Preparatory School, the school already took measures to protect students from COVID-19.

Masks and social distancing were required before Governor Pritzker's new mandate.

The rule came into effect after vaccinated students tested positive for COVID-19 during the summer classes.

To protect students and staff, the mask requirement went into effect.

After Pritzker's announcement, Head of School, Jeremy Robbins, said they will continue to do their best to prevent COVID outbreaks at their school.

"We already anticipated the need from the standpoint of health and safety of our community to resume wearing masks, even among the vaccinated, and really we're going to see that remain until the level of cases begins to drop off again," said Robbins.

Brehm Preparatory School also requires COVID vaccinations with exemptions for medical or spiritual reasons.
