CARBONDALE (WSIL) -- A Manor Court resident resident died Thursday evening after contracting COVID-19.
The Jackson County Health Department confirms the woman in her 90s who recently tested positive for the virus died at the hospital while receiving care for the illness.
Administrator Bart Hagston also confirmed a second Manor Court resident tested positive for COVID-19 earlier the same morning. The patient is a man in his 80s and is being treated at Memorial Hospital.
Currently, there are around 80 residents in the Manor Court skilled nursing facility, a part of Liberty Village in Carbondale, who have all been notified of the confirmed cases.
Melissa Neitzel, administrator for Liberty Village of Carbondale, tells News 3 her staff is doing everything they can to stop the spread of COVID-19 in their facility.
"We continue to work with local, state and federal health officials," Neitzel said. "Our staff and residents are following the recommended preventative actions and will continue to do so until the virus has been eradicated."
Hagston said currently no one else at the facility has tested positive for COVID-19.
