HARRISBURG (WSIL) -- Schools are closed, which means no sports, awards banquets or musicals. So, one high school drama director came up with a clever way to showcase her students' hard work.
Harrisburg High School Drama Director Hannah Drake recorded her students singing and performing parts of the musical "Newsies."
The cast and crew were days away from opening the show when Illinois closed schools.
The recording has some selections from the show and thanks to Drake, some special messages from the original Broadway cast of "Newsies."
"Seize the day my friends. We gotta make it count, even if the world is kind of crazy right now. Anyway, I'm sending so much love to all of you in Harrisburg, Illinois, Harrisburg High and the wonderful production of "Newsies," that hopefully the world will know, one day, how amazing you guys are," exclaimed original cast member Ben Fankhauser.
Fellow cast member Jeremy Jordan also had a message for the crew, saying, "Continue to work on your craft. Sing and act and stretch and dance and do whatever you need to do to stay creative and stay healthy and safe and sane throughout this crazy time."Click to watch the cast's performances and those special messages.
