(WSIL) -- Some people begin to feel anxious after wearing masks for a period of time.

Centerstone's Executive Director of Military Services, Jodie Robison, says the uncertainty surrounding the pandemic such as fears of contracting the virus and adjusting to new safety procedures can trigger anxiety.

Some Signs of Anxiety:

  • Excessive worrying
  • Loss of Control
  • Shaking
  • Sweating

"It's very new to them. It can lead the face feeling hot, which is new, and then it creates a sense of claustrophobia because you're closed--your mouth is closed off."

Robison says there are breathing exercises you can do to relax.

"If you just try to regulate it by breathing into four, the count of four, then holding it for the count of four, and then releasing to the count of four. Keep that same number in mind for inhale, holding and exhale, you'll really be able to regulate your breathing."

She also says positive thinking about face masks and personalizing your mask are other relaxing techniques.
