(WSIL) -- sent a demand letter to Illinois Healthcare (SIH) on behalf of seven employees and numerous others that claimed their religious exemptions for the COVID-19 vaccine were denied.
SIH advised its health care workers that their deadline to receive the first dose of a COVID-19 injection is September 24, 2021.
Employees wishing to be exempt from the vaccine for religious reasons, must submit a form with an explanation of their objection to the shot.
The Liberty Counsel claims some employees have received exemptions based on the same reasons given by employees who have been denied and others aren't receiving an explanation as to why their submission was rejected.
In a release the Liberty Counsel says, "SIH is unlawfully discriminating against some while treating others favorably, despite the employees submitting the required documentation of their sincerely held religious beliefs."
Liberty Counsel Founder and Chairman Mat Staver said, “� Illinois Healthcare must honor the religious exemptions of those employees who have already been denied based on this discriminatory treatment. This is a violation of both state and federal law. We will not allow the rights and free choice of these health care heroes to be violated.”�
WSIL reached out to SIH, who released a statement saying...
"A panel of physicians and other experts, including spiritual care, reviewed each application for medical and religious exemption in its entirety with the utmost respect. While not everyone who applied received an exemption, SIH did grant medical and religious exemptions during this rigorous review process."
