FRANKLIN COUNTY (WSIL) -- The Food Pantry in Thompsonville in in need of non-perishable items to help stock their shelves this winter, and there's a few different ways to donate.
The pantry located at the Community of Christ Church serves 200 families each month. It's open to anyone living in Franklin County, not just Thompsonville residents.
Ann Schwengel, who is the Food Pantry Coordinator, says they receive items from the Saint Louis Area Food Bank, but rely on the community to fill the gap.
"We serve any resident of Franklin County, and as you know, food security is still a very big problem, especially now," she says.
Schwengel says the pantry has seen an increase in need, adding that the pandemic has also led to job loss.
"So, that's put them in a position where they need the pantry, where they may never have used it before," she explains.
A collection will take place at the pantry on Saturday, December 5th from 8 a.m. to 2p.m.
Food items can also be dropped off at the Dollar General and Big O Farm Store during shopping hours.
Those locations will be accepting donations until December 4.
