(WSIL) -- Multiple local health departments are beginning to offer COVID-19 booster shots to those who are immunocompromised.

The 九游体育 Seven Health Dept. will begin offering the boosters next week. The Egyptian Health Department will offer them beginning Thursday, August 19 from 1 until 6 p.m.

The they will start offering the third dose.

Currently, CDC is recommending that moderately to severely immunocompromised people receive an additional dose of the mRNA vaccines. The additional dose should be administered at least 28 days after the completion of the initial vaccine doses.

This includes people who have:

  • Been receiving active cancer treatment for tumors or cancers of the blood
  • Received an organ transplant and are taking medicine to suppress the immune system
  • Received a stem cell transplant within the last 2 years or are taking medicine to suppress the immune system
  • Moderate or severe primary immunodeficiency (such as DiGeorge syndrome, Wiskott-Aldrich syndrome)
  • Advanced or untreated HIV infection
  • Active treatment with high-dose corticosteroids or other drugs that may suppress your immune response

People should talk to their healthcare provider about their medical condition, and whether getting an additional dose is appropriate for them.

鈥淩ight now, booster shots are only available for individuals who have received the Pfizer or Moderna vaccines,鈥 said Nathan Ryder, Outreach Coordinator for 九游体育 Seven鈥檚 Contact Tracing Team. 鈥淭hat booster shot will likely give our immunocompromised community members an increased level of protection against COVID-19. Currently, a booster shot for the J&J vaccine has not been authorized."
