JOHNSTON CITY (WSIL) -- A popular fall destination in Johnston City expects to return this year-with some changes.
"We have some very loyal customers, and this is our home, so this is their home, and why not make it a good place for everyone all the time."
Kelly Bandy, co-owner of Bandy's Pumpkin Patch, has announced their return this year will be accompanied by many changes.
"It just seemed like we didn't want to be part of the problem, and a lot of our family are older, retired, and they're the ones that help us here, so we didn't want to put them at risk either, so we just decided to close down and make some upgrades make some changes and be ready for this year."
After the decision was made last spring to close down for the fall of 2020, the family chose to pass the pumpkin patch to the next generation. Because of that, Bandy says you can expect some additions to this year's festivities.
"We will have the play barn upgraded, we will have a community fire pit this year, our hours are extended, we will be opening the corn maze at night now."
While a night time corn maze has been a much requested item -- she says they're just excited to see their guests once again.
"Smiles, seeing the kids come and smile and run amongst the pumpkins and play. We really missed everybody last year. It was hard on all of us, because I mean its our livelihood in general, but it's also a fun place to be and everybody missed out on that last year, including us."
Bandy says with more people getting vaccinated, they're optimistic a normal pumpkin patch experience will be possible this fall, but they say they'll follow any state guidelines in effect at the time.
