Nearly two dozen test positive for COVID-19 at Murray Center

CENTRALIA (WSIL) -- The President of the is confirming multiple cases of COVID-19 at the facility.

President Rita Winkeler confirmed 17 residents and 6 staff members have tested positive. All live or work at Grape Cottage.

Winkeler said all were showing minor symptoms of the disease on Thursday, with a few residents having a slight temperature.

She said no parents or visitors have been allowed in the center since March 12, only employees or delivery workers.

Winkeler also noted that for the last several weeks, all staff members' temperatures were taken as they entered the premises, and all with symptoms were sent home. For the last month, if a resident turned up with a fever, they were immediately put into quarantine.

Winkeler praised the staff for their quick action and dedication to residents' health and safety.
