Outdoor Farmer’s Market nearing end of season

CARBONDALE (WSIL) -- The Carbondale Farmer's Market is coming to a close in early December with organizers saying the format will remain the same, as fewer venders keep the social distancing required.

Despite Saturday's chilly weather, dozens were out picking up local produce. Mask wore worn, and vendors were spread throughout the parking lot.

The Market began its season moving to a drive-through format while restrictions were in place, as those lifted, they returned to walk-through shopping.

Organizers say whatever the conditions are when they reopen in March, they're prepared.

"That won't be summer yet, so this thing may still be around, but if it is we'll be prepared, now that we've experienced a year of it, feel more comfortable going into another one if it happens," says Market president Kurt Sweitzer. "Started out thinking this was going to be terrible but, we all hung in there together and it's turned out alright."

The outdoor Farmer's Market ends Dec. 5th, the same day Carbondale's Winter Farmer's Market opens in its new location.

This season the Winter Market will open every Saturday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the University Mall. COVID-19 restrictions will keep vendors further apart, and customers have the option of in-person, or online shopping.
