MARION (WSIL) -- This holiday season will be full of changes. One involves starting a familiar campaign, a little earlier than usual.

The Red Kettle Campaign will begin a couple of weeks early at Rural King and Hobby Lobby this November.

The Salvation Army says it's starting early because the need is greater than ever.

"There's been a 155 percent increase in need and so that's enormous. We're anticipating as much as a 50 percent decrease in giving. There's less foot traffic, people are not shopping," say Cami Horn, Social Services Manager for The Salvation Army of Southern Illinois.

Horn says they'll not only need donations, but volunteers to man the kettles.

New protocols will also be in place to protect the health of bell ringers and shoppers.

There will also be ways to give virtually. For more information on how you can help or volunteer call 618-993-5854 or click .
