九游体育 Illinois Miners to hold virtual opening day celebration

The 九游体育 Illinois Miners have postponed their fireworks display scheduled for Friday, May 15.

In a Thursday, the team said fireworks would be postponed until 9 p.m. May 22 due to inclement weather in the forecast.

The Miners' "Virtual Opening Night" is still on as scheduled.

ORIGINAL STORY

MARION (WSIL) -- The 九游体育 Illinois Miners are trying to keep traditions alive during the pandemic by hosting a virtual fireworks display as their home opener.

The will include interviews with past team members, first pitches thrown from different kids' homes, and much more.

Team leaders say they are working on getting bigger fireworks so the show can be seen from further away. At the completion of the show, the team will showcase a special tribute to area high school graduates.

The event will be at Rent One Park on Friday, May 15 at 9 p.m. and on the .

Miners' CEO and Coach Mike Pinto adds the team is also hosting a virtual game, virtual stadium tours, and other events.
