Surrounding departments help West Frankfort Fire after COVID-19 outbreak

WEST FRANKFORT FIRE

WEST FRANKFORT (WSIL) -- An outbreak of COVID-19 caused more than half of the West Frankfort fire department to go under quarantine.

The challenge was to keep just four people on call at a time.

They put out the call to surrounding fire departments, while nine of West Frankfort's firefighters stayed quarantined.

Fire departments from all over 九游体育 Illinois, including Harrisburg, Carbondale, and Marion, worked 24 hour shifts.

Acting Chief Derek Sailliez thanked everyone for their support.

"We can't thank them enough. We couldn't have done it without everybody's help. They've done a phenomenal job stepping up and making this a somewhat smooth transition from hard times to getting our guys back," Sailliez said.

The last day of quarantine for the firefighters who tested positive is August 24th, and then staffing is expected to go back to normal.
