
MARION, IL (WSIL) -- A tradition is returning to the region for another year. Veterans on Parade will take place on September 7th marking 20 years for the event.Ìý
The parade salutes all veterans who have served our country from World War II all the way to current conflicts and peacetime. The parade also honors local first responders and EMS.Ìý
The event is sure to draw a crowd. People will line Main Street to cheer on floats and people walking in the event.
This year's parade is especially recognizing , who organizers describe, as a True American Patriot. The 86-year-old woman passed away June 25th of this year. She had a long record of volunteering at the Anna Veterans Home, Marion VA, Scott's Airforce base, the American Legion Auxiliary and many other veteran-related events.Ìý
Every year, the parade starts at the Marion Junior High and goes all the way down Main street. The kickoff time is 10 a.m. The parade will then go through the town square and it will end at Washington Elementary School. After the parade a memorial ceremony will take place on the Marion Square.
The Marion VFW and American Legion also invite the public to their posts before and after the parade.Ìý
