CARBONDALE (WSIL) -- The City of Carbondale is launching an Inclusion Task Force. The goal is to identify discrimination and disparities in the community and make strategic recommendations to the City Council and other institutions.
To gauge perceptions and identify patterns that may reinforce discrimination, the task force has launched a survey for individuals who live, work, or go to school in Carbondale. All responses are anonymous and confidential. Â

Nancy Maxwell. vice president of the Carbondale Black Chamber of Commerce, wonders if the task force will replace the city's Human Relations Commission.
That group is responsible for communicating with various human agencies and looks into issues regarding community relationships.
"I would like to know are they combining the two or replacing one." Maxwell said.
She says the survey is a good idea to help address inequalities in a community she feels can do more.
"It's diverse as far as the people living here but as far as the services I just named, education and housing and employment, it's not," Maxwell said.
The survey will take 15 - 20 minutes to complete and will ask for feedback on housing, transportation, assistance programs, health and medical services, city services, and other community resources. Â
Paper copies may be completed in person at the Civic Center or Carbondale Public Library. The survey is available through October 31, 2022. Â
