CENTRALIA (WSIL) Organizers of the 31st annual Centralia Balloon Fest are working to create an event that is socially distant, safe and fun for families.
The 2020 Balloon Fest will be a drive-through event with four locations where people can view the balloons from their vehicles.
More than two dozen balloons are scheduled to fly over the city beginning at 6:00 p.m. Friday and Saturday, August 21 and 22.
Those balloons will then take part in “glow events at Fairview Park, Centralia High School, Central City Lions Park and Wamac City Park each night from 7:30 until 8:30 p.m.
“Since the social distancing guidelines were put into place in March, I have been working on a plan to have our event instead of canceling, said Marcus Holland, executive director for the Centralia Chamber of Commerce. “We are happy to announce that we will continue our 31st Annual Balloon Fest but with new ways to see hot air balloons.
Organizers will post updates on the Centralia Balloon Fest and social media .
