WSIL -- that it intends to invest billions into new renewable energy projects over the next two decades in both Missouri and Illinois.
The $8 billion investment is expected to create thousands of new jobs. It will accelerate the company's plans to reduce carbon dioxide emissions and retire coal-fired plants, eventually establishing a goal of reaching "net-zero" carbon emissions by 2050 in both states.
Ameren Missouri plans to add 3,100 megawatts (MW) of wind and solar generation by 2030 and a total of 5,400 MW by 2040. The plan calls for reducing carbon emissions 50% by 2030 and 85% by 2040.
