CARBONDALE (WSIL) -- Amtrak is reducing service between Carbondale, Illinois and Chicago effective Friday, March 20.

Amtrak says corridor service will be reduced to two round trips instead of three due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The 4:15 p.m. northbound train, also known as the 'Illini', will no longer be making round trip service until further notice.

Amtrak says, "anyone planning to travel should check their train status on or our smartphone apps prior to departing, allow extra time to get to the station, and be extremely careful in stations and on platforms."

The 'Saluki' and 'City of New Orleans' trains will still be running northbound and southbound daily. To be notified of other service disruptions, follow @AmtrakAlerts on Twitter.
