I-57 closure

MARION, Ill. -- A portion of I-57 will be closed down starting Sunday night and into Monday morning to allow crews to put in place a significant portion of a bridge along Grassy Road over the interstate.

The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) announced they will be closing both directions of I-57 starting on April 14 at 7 p.m. and through 7 a.m. on April 15.

IDOT said this closure is necessary to perform some steel erection operations for the new Grassy Road bridge being built over the interstate.

Marked detours will be in place for northbound and southbound traffic around the work zone which lies between the 45 and 54 exits of I-57.

Motorists will be able to use Illinois 13 and Illinois 148 to get around the closed section at that time.

Drivers are urged to pay close attention to flaggers and signs in the work zones, obey the posted speed limits and be on the alert for workers and equipment. Public transportation and traveling during non-peak hours are recommended if possible. - IDOT
