Small business owners continue working through pandemic

MARION (WSIL) -- Many local business owners are doing some difficult math right now. They're trying to keep costs down, while keeping their lights on.

Those not getting help from grants are working on other ways to stay open.

Laura Chairez, owner of La Galleria in Marion, is trying to think of creative ways to bring people through the doors.

"I added new flavors to the creamer side, that kind of stuff. I had a few people come in yesterday that wanted to try some of the new stuff and they've loved it," said Chairez.

Governor JB Pritzker has announced more than $90 million in emergency assistance for Illinois small businesses. The package includes $14 million in grants for the hospitality industry.

Chairez did not receive a grant, but she's working on getting a small business loan on her own.

She says if people keep coming into La Galleria, they'll keep their doors open.
