CARBONDALE, Ill. -- A 19-year-old faces multiple charges after police respond to a report of a gun shot at a social gathering in Carbondale.
Police in Carbondale went to the 800-block of East Grand Avenue on Sunday at 3:49 a.m. for a disturbance which was reported.
Police said when officers got there, they said they found there was a battery and gun fired at a social gathering in the area there.
Officers ended up recovering a gun which was hidden at the scene.
One suspect was identified as Kahlil E. Oliver, 19 of Chicago.
The officers on this case also were able to get a search warrant for Oliver's home on SIU's campus. There they said they found some evidence for this investigation.
Oliver was charged with aggravated unlawful use of a weapon and reckless discharge of a firearm. Oliver was taken to the Jackson County Jail.
A preliminary hearing has been scheduled for Oliver for November 14, at 1:15 p.m. at the Jackson County Courthouse.
The investigation is active and ongoing.
