32-Year-old Carterville Taken to Jail, Suspected of Motor Vehicle Theft

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- A 32-year-old man was taken to jail after police say he is a suspect in a vehicle theft which occurred in Carbondale.

The Carbondale Police Department said they investigated a burglary which reportedly happened in the 1500-block of Reed's Station Road at a storage facility on May 29.

There officers found someone who was suspected of going onto the property and stealing items, including a 2008 white Ford Ranger truck.

A suspect in this case was identified as Cody L. McKenzie, 32 of Carterville.

Detectives met with McKenzie while he was in the Williamson County Jail on unrelated charges. According to the Jackson County State's Attorney Joseph Cervantez, McKenzie was later charged with one count of burglary and one count of vehicle theft.

McKenzie was taken to the Jackson County Jail.

The investigation is ongoing.
