39-year-old man arrested for allegedly consuming $17.81 worth of stolen products inside grocery store

SIKESTON, Mo. -- A man faces charges after he allegedly took and consumed food and alcohol items inside a grocery store.

According to a probable cause statement, it happened at Food Giant in Sikeston on December 10, 2023.

An employee reported a man acting suspicious. That’s when a Sikeston police officer came in and found Trevor Ethridge, 39, in aisle 9, eating a canned food item, according to the statement.

The probable cause statement then detailed how the officer smelled alcohol and stated “Mr. Ethridge appeared to be intoxicated.�

The officer also said in the statement that he located a half-empty bottle of vodka on Ethridge. The officer later found an empty spot on the shelf where similar vodka bottles were stocked.

According to online court records, Ethridge faces burglary and stealing charges out of Scott County.
