CHARLESTON, Mo. (WSIL) -- A man from southeast Missouri was sentenced to life in prison in an attempted rape case in Mississippi County.

Mississippi County Prosecuting Attorney Claire Poley stated Judge Zac Horack sentenced Jimmie Taylor to life in prison on November 12, after Taylor earlier pleaded guilty to a 1st Degree Attempted Rape charge on September 12.

"This case is a reminder of the resilience and strength of victims who bravely come forward in the face of heinous crimes," Prosecuting Attorney Poley stated. "We are deeply inspired by the victim’s courage and determined to ensure that justice is served. No one should ever have to endure such harm, and the sentence today reflects the commitment of our judicial system to protect victims and bring offenders to justice. I want to thank the investigators who worked tirelessly on this case, as well as the court staff and Judge Horack who upheld justice in this solemn matter."

According to online court records, Taylor is to serve 30 years in the Department of Corrections. He is to serve the time to run consecutive with the current time he is serving.
