Carbondale police investigating shooting that leaves 1 dead

CARBONDALE (WSIL) -- Authorities are investigating an early morning shooting death.

Carbondale police responded to a report of shots fired with injury in the 2200 block of North Illinois Ave. at 12:21 a.m. on Wednesday, January 22.

When police arrived they found an unresponsive 25-year-old black male with several gunshot wounds.

Officers, along with personnel from the Jackson County Ambulance and Carbondale Fire Department attempted life-saving measures but were unable to resuscitate the male. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The victim's name is being withheld pending notification of the family.

Carbondale police are handling the investigation with assistance from Jackson County Coroner's Office and the Jackson County Sheriff's Department.
