McCRACKEN COUNTY, Ky 鈥� The McCracken County Sheriff's Department arrested a Lone Oak, Ky woman on child abuse charges.
Deputies say on July 19, they responded to a 911 call regarding a 9-month-old child who was unresponsive and barely breathing. The child was taken to a hospital before being airlifted to a pediatric trauma center,
Deputies say doctors found signs and evidence of child abuse. Doctors determined the child was violently shaken, which led to the child being in medical distress.聽
On Thursday, July 23, McCracken County deputies and officers with the Paducah Police Department, arrested Melany Mohundro, 47, of Lone Oak. She is charged with one count of Criminal Abuse 1st degree (child 12 or under).聽
The Sheriff's Office says Mohundro was arrested after the investigation showed that she, acting as a caretaker, became frustrated with the child for crying and began to shake the child as a means of discipline. This shaking is what caused the child to become unresponsive.
