Mt. Vernon man arrested after police say they found gun, ammunition and decaying dead dogs

MOUNT VERNON, Ill. (WSIL) -- A Mt. Vernon man was arrested after police said they found a gun, ammunition and some decaying dead dogs at a home after they responded to a domestic dispute report.

The Mount Vernon Police Department said at 12:40 p.m. on October 22, officers responded to a report of a domestic dispute with one person having a gun. Police went to the 200-block of South 19th Street where the reported incident occurred at.

Area schools were notified and took precautions due to the reported incident happening close by, police stated.

Police started investigating and said they were able to get a search warrant for the home of Roderick Burnett Jr. After searching, police said they found a gun, ammunition and decaying deceased dogs there at the home.

Burnett Jr. was arrested and taken to the Jefferson County Jail. Police said he faces charges of Armed Violence, Felon in Possession of a Firearm, Aggravated Assault, Disorderly Conduct and Aggravated Cruelty to Animals.
