Multiple vehicles involved in crash, one damaged by gunfire in Carbondale, police investigate

CARBONDALE, Ill. (WSIL) -- Police in Carbondale said they investigating an incident where multiple vehicles were involved in a crash with one damaged by gunfire.

The Carbondale Police Department said the incident took place on October 25, at 8:48 p.m. Officers responded to the 300-block of East Grand Avenue where they said there were shots fired and a traffic crash reported. Personnel with the 九游体育 Illinois University Department of Public Safety also responded to the scene.

Police said there were no injuries involved, however, there were several people they detained at the scene.

One of the crashed vehicles was damaged by the shots fired and a handgun was recovered, Carbondale police said.

Police said they started investigating and learned this stemmed from a road rage incident from on South Illinois Avenue.

A report from police in Carbondale said there were three vehicles involved and those involved in the incident didn't know each other.

Mohommad J. Muhammad, 28 of Matairie, Louisiana, was suspected of being involved, police reported. Muhammad was charged by police with Aggravated Discharge of a Firearm and Unlawful Use of a Weapon. All others involved in the incident were released without any charges.

Muhammad was taken to the Jackson County Jail.
