Police Investigate Shooting Incident in Carbondale, One Arrested, Another Sought

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- Police are investigating a shooting incident on Tuesday night.

The Carbondale Police Department said officers went out to the 500-block of South Graham Street on August 20 at 9:23 p.m. for a shots fired report.

Police said officers found out there was a driver of a red vehicle which exchanged gun shots with another person who was standing in front of their home.

The vehicle then reportedly left the area traveling on East Mill Street.

Police said there is not a description of the driver, however, the vehicle was described as red with black wheels.

Authorities said the person standing outside of the home was identified as Shomari D. Lipscomb, 26 of Carbondale, who was suspected being involved in the incident.

Police said they found Lipscomb which was taken into custody and was charged with Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon and Possession of a Firearm without a Firearm Owners Identification Card. Libscomb was then taken to the Jackson County Jail.

Police said a gun and other evidence was collected.

No injuries were reported, however, police said bullets did hit some property which caused damage in the area.

The individual inside the red vehicle has not been identified at this time, however, police said this may be a personal dispute between people who knew each other.
