(CNN) -- Three U.S. soldiers in Tennessee are accused of purchasing and transporting nearly 100 illegal guns.
The Justice Department says give of the guns were linked to a mass shooting in Chicago.
Demarcus Adams, Jarius Brunson and Brandon Miller were arrested Tuesday. They are stationed at Fort Campbell in Clarksville, Tennessee.
Prosecutors say the investigation began after the March 26 shooting in Chicago that left eight people injured and one dead.
Investigators traced the guns back to federal firearms licensed dealers in the Clarksville area.
It was discovered that since September 2019, the three soldiers purchased 91 guns from multiple dealers. Miller then sent them to his associates in Chicago.
Prosecutors are charging Adams, Brunson and Miller with transferring a firearm to an out-of-state residents, making false statements during the purchase of a firearm, engaging in the business without a firearms license, wire fraud, money laundering and conspiracy.
