MARION, Ill. (WSIL) -- The City of Marion stated they have partnered with the Marion High School to revitalize the historic Midway Court neighborhood.

The construction of the Midway Court neighborhood will see new homes built to help Marion's growing need for affordable housing, the city stated.

Students with the building trades program with the Marion High School will be guided by their instructor, Lester James, in providing construction for two new homes. Students will get hands-on experience and gain skills with this program.

The City of Marion stated this new revitalization for Midway Court is part of a broader strategy in Marion to increase housing units as the workforce grows throughout the city.

City officials said the city has added hundreds of jobs in the last few years with more than 1,000 more jobs expected with the STAR Bond project.

Construction on the new homes started on January 27.
