WSIL -- Some communities across the region plan to give away free food to people in need during the pandemic.
Central Illinois Foodbank is holding a free drive-through food distribution on Saturday, May 16, at Mt. Vernon Township High School. This distribution is open to everyone from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. while supplies last. There are no financial eligibility requirements. Each household will receive pre-packed boxes with a variety of foods including, both TEFAP and privately donated products.
To comply with CDC guidelines, all guests should remain in their cars, and volunteers will load food into the trunk or back seat. Everyone should make sure space is cleared to ensure safety.
St. John Praise and Worship Center is also be holding a food distribution event. It will be held Saturday, May 16. The event starts at 1 p.m. at 371 N. Chestnut in Pulaski, IL. Volunteers will be giving away fresh produce and other essential items to those in need.
