JUNCTION, Ill. (WSIL) -- A local school received a grant to help combat hunger in their community.
The Foundation for Impact on Literacy (FILL), along with the Albertsons Companies Foundation's Nourishing Neighbors Program, are helping fight hunger in Gallatin County after the Gallatin County High School was announced to have received a grant.
The grant was part of the . program.
According to their website, the Explore.Act.Tell. is a free project-based learning program that teaches 6th-12th grade students to understand and combat food insecurity in their community.
In Gallatin County, students at the high school with the Family, Career and Community Leaders of America, helped deliver 34 healthy and homemade meals to local elderly residents on Valentine's Day. They delivered these to residents across the county, driving a total of 112 miles to help deliver the nutritious meals, along with a decorated shoebox to those who had limited access to fresh foods.
Nourishing Neighbors is a program which seeks to make sure everyone has access to food they need. FILL partners with this program to recognize efforts from students who help to fight hunger in their community across the nation.

Program is a direct testament to the incredible passion with which students and educators have embraced our curriculum and message,� said Diane Barrett, Executive Director of the Foundation for Impact on Literacy and Learning. “As another school year begins, we are excited to observe how students learn to collaborate, plan actions and research hunger and food insecurity in their communities.�
