CARBONDALE, Ill. (WSIL) -- SIH has implemented temporary restrictions for visitors as flu cases have increased in the area.

SIH said a significant spike in flu cases has led the hospital system to put in place restrictions for visitors at their facilities which are in effect as of February 6, 2025.

SIH stated this is to help protect patients, families and staff members during this heightened time in the flu season.

The following restrictions are as follows...

  • Visitation is limited to individuals ages 18 and older.
  • Each patient may have no more than two visitors at a time.
  • Anyone experiencing flu-like symptoms (fever, cough, sore throat, etc.) is asked to refrain from visiting.

SIH detailed since October 1, 2024, they have had 566 cases of Influenza A and one case of Influenza B. 230 of the Influenza A cases were diagnosed between January 26, and February 1, during this year. This particular week is equivalent to 40% of the reported flu cases since October for SIH facilities. This was reported from across all their hospitals and clinics.

Earlier, IDPH raised the respiratory illness level in Illinois from moderate to high.

Masks and hand sanitizers are available at SIH hospital entrances and throughout their facilities to help reduce the spread of illnesses.
