WEST FRANKFORT, Ill. -- Christmas lights plugged into an outlet extender are to blame for a house fire in West Frankfort.
The West Frankfort Fire Department said it happened on December 19, at 11:40 a.m., when they got a call about smoke coming from a home in the 200-block of North Jackson Street.
Multiple crews went to the scene. As the first crew arrived, they saw smoke coming from the eves of the home.
More crews arrived at the scene and attacked the fire, going inside the home and into a bedroom where the fire was.
Fire crews were able to put out the fire and said nobody was in the home.
The fire department said the cause of the fire was accidental and stated it was caused by an outlet extender with Christmas lights plugged in.
The Benton Fire Department, Johnston City Fire Department and Buckner Fire Departments assisted in the call.
