ORIGINAL: April 10, 10:45 a.m. -- Military at the Scott Air Force Base (SAFB) in Illinois, are blocking access for entry into the base and telling nearby residents to shelter in place, after a K-9 working dog alerted personnel during a routine explosive sweep on Wednesday morning.

The United States Air Force alerted the public and said the alert came around 9 a.m. during a routine explosive sweep on a portion of a vehicle.

The routine explosive sweep was reportedly at the Commercial Vehicle Inspection Gate, which is commonly referred to as the Mascoutah Gate.

Military put a 1,000 foot cordon in place to keep anyone from entering the area.

St. Clair Police have helped to respond and told residents in the area about the safety cordon and to also shelter in place.

The United States Air Force stated Explosive Ordnance Disposal personnel are on scene to secure the area, a new release stated.
