One taken to jail after police find roughly 90 pills of suspected fentanyl

Marion police made the arrest. The man awaits first court appearance.

HERRIN, Ill. -- A 40-year-old faces drug charges after police find suspected fentanyl during a search of a home.

On Friday at around 9 a.m., the Marion Police Department Narcotics Unit/Crime Suppression Unit had a search warrant for a home in the 1200-block of S. Duncan Street in Herrin.

Marion police said the search warrant was from a fentanyl and crystal methamphetamine investigation which originated in Marion.

While officers searched the home in Herrin, they found and seized roughly 90 capsules of suspected fentanyl. They also found other drug paraphernalia and various forms of federal government law enforcement credentials with the offender's information on it as well. 

Marion police said Rex A. Piper II, 40, was arrested at the home as part of this investigation. He was cited for possession of 15-100 grams of fentanyl with the intend to distribute and was taken to the Williamson County Jail.
