CARBONDALE, Ill聽(WSIL) -- Two organizations from SIH donated thousands of dollars to Toys for Tots.
SIH administrators say it's important to help the community.
The 4 Surgical team at SIH raised over $10,000 for Toys for Tots. Another organization, SIH Memorial Hospital of Carbondale Auxiliary team donated $2,000. Ann Jiter is a Registered Nurse for the 4 Surgical team. She told us her reaction when they heard the amount of money they raised.
"The day we counted on the 26th, we counted the cash, then we called the gift shop to give us the total of the employees using their badges today," said Jiter. "We screamed, we actually screamed and people came to the room to see if something was wrong. There might have been some tears. We wouldn't have dreamed never would have even guessed we would make $10,257," said Jiter.
Anna Mary Rushing is a volunteer with the SIH Memorial Hospital of Carbondale Auxiliary team. She reflected on how grateful she is for her community.
"It's very rewarding to see the hospital personally come in and give so generously to help out," said Rushing. "We are so very blessed in our country. I think we just need to realize that not everybody is as blessed as we have been," Rushing added.
Officials from Toys for Tots said they are grateful for the generosity from the community and can't wait to distribute toys to the kids.
