HERRIN, Ill. (WSIL) -- The Herrin House of Hope is calling on the community to address a growing food insecurity crisis.

After serving more than 40,000 meals in 2024, a substantial jump from the 27,000+ meals the previous year, the ministry has launched the "Sponsor a Day" campaign for 2025. This aims to secure enough support to cover all 260 weekdays.

John Steve, Director the Herrin House of Hope, highlights the crucial need for increased support to meet the rising demand.

"I am a little concerned with how much more meals we're going to serve this year, and this is why we're asking the community and the regions to step up, arise, and help us be in a better position so we can fully address hunger relief and food insecurity," Steve said.

According to , 61% of the Williamson County population was below the SNAP threshold of 165% in just 2022 alone.

"I'm just glad that Herrin House of Hope is just a staple here in the community to help address the food insecurity and hunger relief," Steve said.
