MT. VERNON, Ill., (WSIL) -- It's time to put on the thick coats, scarves and gloves and get ready for an amazing outdoor light show. It's Mt. Vernon's 'The Great Christmas Light Fight,' happening Saturday, December 7, and includes a parade and plenty of downtown activities for the whole family.
Overall festivities begin at 4 p.m., but the crowd pleaser kicks-off promptly at 5 p.m. with their lighted parade. The parade is a fan favorite because, like many this time of year, the floats are lighted for the holidays. The creators of the best and brightest float get a trophy!
You can head downtown for all the action, at the Broadway Commons. After the parade, you can check out all of the activities which include cookie decorating, free hot cocoa, Santa's Cottage, a snow globe photo op and so much more. Don't forget to pop into some of the downtown boutiques for some Christmas shopping. You can even find Mt. Vernon themed gifts in a few of the shops.
