(WEVV) -- Area residents were surprised on Thursday morning when they awoke to find that an RV had been placed on a sandbar in the middle of the Ohio River overnight.
The sandbar that forms in the middle of the Ohio River along the Evansville Riverfront has been a place for boats and residents to enjoy for years. According to witnesses, around 1:30 A.M. Thursday morning, a floating barge was seen taking the small camper out to the sand bar.
We're told four people dressed in all black shined a red spotlight in front of them to help conceal their identities before placing the camper on the sandbar.
"Normally at 1:30 in the morning it's pretty quiet,so I got up, went outside my boat, looked around to see what was going on, and I saw four gentlemen with an RV floating in the water behind my boat. Uh, I didn't think too much of it until this morning, when we woke up and saw that there's a camper out on the sandbar," said houseboat resident Jake Wimpleberg.
People who witnessed it all tell 44News it seemed barge operators on the river, who work around the clock , didn't notice the camper on the move.
If this scene looks familiar, it's because it is - back in 2017 a man parked his truck on the very same sandbar.
The spectacle drew in dozens of people, all eager to get a look at the temporary landmark. While some speculate whether the same man is responsible for parking the camper, that remains unclear. No matter who did it, however, it's safe to say this stunt will be just as popular as the last.
If you do plan on visiting the sandbar, be sure to exercise proper caution and safety.
