particularly dangerous situation flash flooding and flooding
situation this afternoon through Sunday.

...FLOOD WATCH REMAINS IN EFFECT THROUGH SUNDAY MORNING...

* WHAT...Flash flooding and flooding caused by excessive rainfall is
expected. Preliminary projections of up to 1 foot of total
rainfall over parts of the area is not out of the question.

* WHERE...All of southeast Missouri, southern Illinois, southwest
Indiana and Western Kentucky

* WHEN...Through Sunday morning.

* IMPACTS...
...This is a particularly dangerous situation...

Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams,
and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. Creeks and streams
may rise out of their banks. Low-water crossings may be flooded.
Extensive street flooding and flooding of creeks and rivers are
possible. Flooding may occur in homes, businesses and other
locations not normally subject to flooding. Roadways may wash away
near creeks and culverts.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...
- Multiple rounds of locally heavy rainfall over several days
will result in extreme forecast amounts of up to 1 foot of
rain that will cause the risk of flash flooding and flooding
to rise markedly and create a particularly dangerous flooding
situation.


PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Monitor later forecasts and be alert for Flash Flood and Flood
Warnings. Be prepared to take action when flooding develops.

Pets of the Week: August 5, 2021

CARTERVILLE (WSIL) -- There are no cats up for adoption in this edition of Pets of the Week, but four dogs are looking for homes.

Maverick is a sweet, 1-year-old Lab-mix. He is neutered, loves other dogs, and hasn't met a stranger. He also loves to play with his tennis ball or snuggle with his stuffed animals. He's up for adoption at the Humane Society of ¾ÅÓÎÌåÓý Illinois in Murphysboro.

Zeke is a 9-month-old Jack Russell Terrier/Brittany Spaniel-mix. He weighs about 33-pounds and is not a fan of small children, but teenagers are okay. Zeke has puppy energy, so he needs an active home to let it all out. If he's the boy for you, contact the Perry County Humane Society in Du Quoin.

Bella is a 3-year-old Pit-mix who is sweet. She is spayed and good with other dogs her size, but not small dogs. For more about Bella, contact Jefferson County Animal Control in Mt. Vernon.

Lastly is a male Shepherd mix who needs a name and home. He's about 2 to 3 years old and was found on Vernon Road in Marion. He is ready for adoption now. The fee is $137 at Williamson County Animal Control.
