Unsung Hero: Twila Couey, Marion library volunteer

  • 0

PINCKNEYVILLE (WSIL) -- Marion Carnegie Library has recognized a long-time volunteer for her service in this edition of Unsung Hero.

Twila Couey has been volunteering at the library during children's story hour every week for over 10-years. Every Wednesday, children can participate in dancing, singing, crafts, and listen to a story.

Coordinator of Children Services, Shelley Hudspath, said Twila is one of the most dedicated volunteers, and she also participates in other events the library holds.

Shelley has been with the library for more than three years, and in her time there, she said Twila has only missed twice. She believes Twila's devotion to her time at the library comes from her love for children and education.

"Twila is a former classroom teacher. I believe she [just] knows what a huge impact it can have to [just] take an hour a week and come to the library and help out so many kids and our programs," added Shelley.

In the past year, Story Hour has been virtual, but in June will be the Summer kick-off, where the kids will be allowed back at the library. Shelley said the library is holding its first-ever 5-K run on May 29 and Twila plans to be there. If you would like to volunteer, contact the library at (618) 993-5935.
