Amy Coney Barrett, Supreme Court

(WSIL ) -- Amy Coney Barrett is headed to to the Supreme Court. The Senate confirmed Barrett with a vote of 52-48. Judge Barrett will be the third Supreme Court justice nominated by Trump.

U.S. Senator Dick Durbin (D-Illinois) voted against the nomination of Judge Amy Coney Barrett to the U.S. Supreme Court.

“This is a dark day for the United States Senate. Republicans are defying the rules and traditions of this body in a rush to confirm Judge Barrett in the middle of a once-in-a-century pandemic and an election." said U.S. Sen. Durbin. “As a result of this partisan power grab, the future of the Affordable Care Act, the right to privacy and choice, the outcome of the election, and so many other important rights and protections are at risk.  I believe my Republican colleagues will regret the consequences of taking the Senate down this path.

U.S. Senator Roy Blunt (R-Missouri) released a statement after voting to confirm Judge Barrett.

“Throughout this confirmation process, Judge Amy Coney Barrett proved time and again why she will make a tremendous addition to the Supreme Court. She clearly understands that the role of a judge is to interpret and apply the law and the Constitution as they are written, not as she wishes they were written."

U.S. Senator Tammy Duckworth (D-Illinois) also voted against the confirmation of Judge Barrett.

“Judge Barrett was not fit to be a Circuit Judge in 2017 and she is the wrong choice for a lifetime appointment to the Supreme Court today.

U.S. Representative Mike Bost (R-Murphysboro) releases a statement on the confirmation of Judge Barrett.

"I am pleased to see the Senate’s confirmation of Judge Amy Coney Barrett to the Supreme Court tonight. She is an extremely qualified jurist and will be an excellent Supreme Court Justice."
