(WSIL)聽鈥� It was nearly 50 years ago that 鈥淪esame Street鈥� premiered on public television stations nationwide. On November聽10, 1969 children鈥檚 programming was changed, and hasn鈥檛 seen as significant an impact made since.
Produced by Sesame Workshop, 鈥淪esame Street鈥� has been a way to introduce children to social skills and a multi-cultural world they may not see in their own neighborhoods. It has helped to educate several generations of children by using muppets and music, as well as the occasional celebrity guest.
In 2015, new episodes of 鈥淪esame Street鈥� moved to HBO, but the show continued to air repeats on PBS following their cable run.
HBO will celebrate the show鈥檚 golden milestone with 鈥淪esame Street鈥檚 50th Anniversary Celebration,鈥� airing Saturday at 7 p.m., and repeating Nov. 17 on PBS.
