CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (WSIL) -- As unemployment claims continue to grow, the Southeast Missouri (SEMO) Food Bank says they're continuing to see a high demand for food in the community.

The food bank estimates they'll need $2.4 million to purchase food over the next six months to fulfill the need. That's five times higher than before the economic downturn of COVID-19, according to Jennifer Wood of SEMO Food Bank.

Right now, those needing food have six mobile food pantries they can visit over the near term.
